Amazon oil

US oil company Chevron will appeal against an $8.6 billion fine charged by Ecuator judges, enduring a long term controversy over pollution. Chevron also said this case was a fraud and accused the Ecuater's government of polluting this country's amazon region . The legal argument has been going on for 18 years and has created disputes in the US and Ecuator. And analysts say it is not likely to be over. The oil entreprise Texaco, wich was bought by Chevron , is accused of unloading billions of gallons of toxic waist into Amazon rivers between 1972 and 1992. Locals say that animals were killed, harvests were damaged and that cancer rates increased. But Texaco spent more than $40m on cleaning that area in the 90's and signed an agreement leaving all responsability to Ecuator government. In other words, Chevron is determined that it will not pay the sky high fine, but someone will have to clean the mess the toxic waists left on the amazon territory. So in the end, who's going to pay the bill ?
